Patterns that tell a story.
I’m Anna Svoboda, the designer behind Motifany. My work explores surface design as a way to bring meaning and atmosphere to everyday objects. From stand-alone patterns to curated collections, each piece is created with intention and care.
New Collection in Progress
Inspired by heritage interiors and classic arts & crafts decorating, this collection brings warmth and sophistication to your walls and drapes. Balanced composition and calm soft colorway create spaces that feel elegant, inviting, and relaxing.
The Still Rooms
There are rooms where time moves differently. Rooms where the light is soft, the patterns familiar, and nothing asks anything of you.
The patterns draw from the same tradition: damask, ogee, flame stitch, trailing florals, each one a form that has been lived with for centuries.
Still Rooms is a collection built for those spaces. The name comes from the quiet storerooms of historic European houses — set apart, unhurried, holding things carefully.
Each design is hand-rendered in a single linen-textured line — enough to be present, not enough to demand attention. The pattern becomes part of the room's stillness. Something to rest your eyes on. Something that asks you to slow down.
Garden Cottage Collection
A Liberty-inspired collection rooted in the English cottage garden. Ditsy florals, rose festoons, garden conversationals and classic coordinates — gingham, stripes, argyle and polka dots — all united by a palette of dusty rose, periwinkle and warm cream. Cottage Garden is designed for fabric, wallpaper and home décor licensing.
Ayurvedic Florals Collection
Inspired by Ayurveda and its grounding, warming principles, this collection reflects a slower, more intentional rhythm of life.
Designed for stationery like diaries and journals, the patterns draw from Ayurvedic plants and are meant to feel nurturing, rich, and calming rather than purely decorative.
Garden of the Blue Pavilion Minicollection
A collection of four hand-illustrated patterns inspired by chinoiserie — the European interpretation of Chinese decorative arts that has adorned porcelain, wallpaper, and textiles since the 18th century.
Garden Lake Minicollection
Inspired by Art Nouveau, this mini collection explores a lake in the garden filled with intricate insect life.
Katachi Collection
A Japanese geometric collection built on pattern as meaning. Asanoha, seigaiha, kikko, shippo and more — each drawn by hand and rooted in research into its cultural and historical context. United by a limited palette of navy, steel blue and blush, Katachi explores the quiet power of shapes that have carried symbolism for centuries.
